Baynesfield Estate is a large farming company situated about 25 km outside Pietermaritzburg on the road to Richmond. The Estate has been a working farm for over 150 years and has a proud heritage that is reflected in an agricultural museum and a Victorian era museum. Our school camp is nestled on the banks of the Mbangweni dam in a picturesque setting that offers some awesome bass fishing and wild life viewing. The camp boasts an exhilarating 300m zip line across the dam and an obstacle course complete with underground tunnels! We can accommodate 90 Learners in our dormitories whilst teachers are accommodated in private chalets. We have a resident Khoisan that is a firm favourite with the Learners teaching them the ancient crafts of the Khoisan people such as bow hunting and fire making. We can customize a program to suit your needs that can include trips to our museum and farming operations, amongst a number of other activities.
Activities we offer are:
Jospeh Baynes house tour
Dairy museum tour
Stalk the lantern
Khoisan activities: fire making, shelter building, bow and arrow shooting and trap making
